When we moved here a couple of years ago, a friend of ours gave us some excess iris he needed to get rid of. Last year we had 4 or 5 blooms. This year, they have multiplied and bloomed like crazy! We've really enjoyed looking out our kitchen window and seeing these beauties.
I've been wanting to try my hand at using buttons. It seems to be all the rage right now, and I've seen some beauties using that technique. So I made a couple of cards yesterday using buttons. This is one of them. I stamped the flowers on ivoy CS in Tuxedo Black using a "Fab Flowers" by Hampton Arts stamp. I colored the leaves and the petals using my Copics. I cut it out using a Spellbinders oval. (The flowers were a welcome change to the dreary weather we had yesterday.) Then added rhinestones and buttons, inked around the edges a little, and mounted it on a Spellbinders Oval Scallop. The DP is from Cosmo Cricket's Early Bird Collection. I love this paper! I scalloped the borders with a new EK punch I found at Michael's that punches and embosses. I stamped and embossed the "Happy Birthday" on a smoky blue color of Bazzil and tied it on with a little silk ribbon of the same color. This one will be placed in my stash until just the right birthday comes along. Now it's off to church and a day of family fun in celebration of my brother's birthday.
After just watching for years, I finally tried my hand at a challenge. This one was over at SCS and was entitled "Flock Around the Clock". It was a challenge encouraging everyone to use things they already had. Well, I was up for it since I've had "Crushed Velvet" by Doodlebug in my stash for probably 3 years - unused! I came up with a birthday card using an ivory base with another one of those MME die cut pages, topped with a flocked flower with a huge rhinestone center. The stem is also flocked. I stamped and embossed the sentiment and mounted on a Spellbinders Petite Oval. It was fun. And challenging! I didn't end up with quite what I'd hoped for, but still it was fun.
I discovered, in my stash, two small journaling books by Making Memories that I bought quite some time ago. I was kind of in a hurry for a sympathy card, and these little die cuts sure fit the bill for speed and beauty. I started with an ivory base, popped a dark red CS on top, followed by a popped black CS. Layered on that is a DP made by K&Co entitled "Black & Ivory". I placed the pre-made die cut that I had stamped (popped, too, of course) on the DP. The stamp was also one I had in my stash, and I could not find the name or maker. I inked the floral stamp with Fired Brick distress ink, stamped it once on a scrap, then stamped it onto the die cut. This created a sort of "watermark" or shadow effect. Over that, I stamped the sentiment using Black Tuxedo, then embossed. The little bird was stamped with the same, embossed, then cut out. I finished it off with a black velvet ribbon across the bottom of the die cut topped with prima flowers and a black rhinestone brad. I'll certainly be using those little die cuts again!
Although it's no one's birthday, I thought this card would be a good one to hang onto until I need it. I really enjoyed making this one. I started out making a Mother's Day card for my mother and ended up with a Mother's Day card (I'll show that later) as well as this Birthday card. I started with a card base made of Bazzill cardstock in a pale green. I added a layer of DP from a K&Co pad that I love called Madeline. It's full of pink and green - my fav! The scallop is from a little Making Memories pad called "Noteworthy". Lots of cute "mini cuts" in this pad. I did raise it for dimension. I added a rosette of tulle (which doesn't really show up very well here). On top of that, I placed my three handmade ribbon blossoms, each with a pearl center. The die cut flourishes are from a Quikutz die, embellished with a few more pearls. The sentiment is done using a SU stamp from the "Well Scripted" set. I stamped it with a versa ink pad, then added a SU product called "Heat and Stick Powder", then topped with MS glitter in Tourmaline. I placed the sentiment on a Spellbinders "Fancy Tag" and added a few more pearls. Very feminine card, and I really like the way it turned out. I'll save it for someone special!
Well, it seems as though I'm hooked on baby cards now. I made this one in response to a Splitcoaster's challenge to make a "quilt" from paper scraps. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it uploaded to the site. I'll keep working on that. The stamps are MS from a baby collection. They are all stamped and embossed in different "baby" colors on white cardstock. Then popped on a green label punched using a SU punch. Those were then popped on Spellbinders squares of paper from a paper pad I've had in my stash for quite some time, whose name I cannot recall right now. I've put it away and now can't seem to re locate it. I need to remember to write down all the materials I use as I use them. The ribbon is a wired ribbon from Michael's. All mounted on orange cardstock and an ivory card base. Thanks for looking!
This is my second post in one day! I'm trying to get the hang of this, and you know what they say about practice? This is a card I took to a baby shower over the weekend. I started with an ivory base and added a layer of blue and green gingham from "Small Wonders" from K & Co. I've had this paper in my stash for quite awhile and was glad to finally find a purpose for it. To that, I added a large stripe of the striped paper from the same collection. I stamped the elephants (Brenda Walton stamp) in moss green on white paper, embossed them with a powder named "Kaleidoscope". It's kind of shimmery, but clear. Then punched with an embossing scallop punch. I distressed the border and "popped" it on the stripe. The small elephants across the top are actually a MS stamp which I used on a plain cotton twill ribbon. Then I stamped the "boy" in the same moss green and once again embossed. Below is the inside of the card. I used a SU stamp for this. The recipient of this card loved it!
I just can't seem to let go of Easter. I just love that Holiday! This is another card I made in honor of that great holiday. This is the one I gave my parents. It is a sweet little sitting Tilda. She's in the midst of a basket filled with colored eggs. She is stamped with Tuxedo black and colored with Copics. I cut her out and "popped" her up in the basket full of eggs which are also colored with Copics and then stickled a little. These pieces were placed atop a Spellbinders scalloped circle which was sat on a Spellbinders label. Everything is popped and placed on a background of My Mind's Eye Home. This is a beautiful 12 x 12 glittered paper pad. For the sentiment, I stamped Happy Easter using my Just Rite stamper, then cut with a Spellbinders Petite Oval. Then matted that onto a larger oval (popped of course). This card was lots of fun to make!
This is one of the cards I made for Easter giving. I gave this one to my son and his family. The paper is from a Rusty Pickle set that has been in my stash for about 2 years now! The bunny, SU, was stamped in a rich brown and embossed, then decorated with a beautiful little silk bow which I made using my Bow Easy. The bunny was then "popped" onto a Spellbinders Rectangle which was in turn "popped" onto a Spellbinders Scalloped Rectangle. The scalloped border was made using a new EK punch which scallops and embosses, topped by a Spellbinders Fancy Tag beribboned with more of the great silk. The sentiment is SU. All this was mounted on an ivory base. This card was such fun to make! I love the chocolate bunny. He looks like a real one! 
Little Waverly Ella (my beautiful granddaughter) is taking time to "smell the roses". Well, they're not actually roses, but a sure sign that Spring has finally arrived in TN!!!
